Fifth Grade

Fifth grade strives to teach children how to learn. The emphasis of classroom activities, projects, and instruction is structured to teach critical thinking skills. Fifth grade promotes in students mastery of core knowledge that is essential to their competence as learners in later grades.
The daily schedule includes classes in religion, reading, math, language arts, social studies, science, physical education, art, and computers. Each day classes begin at 8:25 and end at 3:15. The students attend Mass the first Friday of each month.

Hello everyone--
In just a few short weeks, we have learned many new concepts throughout our curriculum. We are studying plant and animal cells in science, Jesus' mission and works of mercy in religion, place value in math, long and short vowels in language arts, and Native American tribes in social studies. Wow! That is only the beginning and we have so much more to learn.
The kids have the extra credit opportunity to create a totem pole that represents their family. Once they are turned in, make sure to check them out becuase they will be displayed in the hallway outside our room. I can not wait to see all of the creativity that goes into this wonderful opportunity. In addition, they are working hard on several art projects with Mrs. Binger. It is obvious that we have a very artisitc and talented group of artists in the fifth grade. Several examples will be hung up in the hallway shortly for you to check out.
We are excited to welcome both Fr. Ken and John Gibson into our classroom. We are currently trying to coordinate schedules and they should be paying us a visit very soon. Our first fifth grade class mass will be on Thursday, October 4th. In addition, we will begin Eucharistic Adoration for the school year on Friday, October 5th.
As the days get shorter and the temperatures get colder, please make sure your child is dressed properly. Many of the kids are going outside in short sleeves and freeze at recess. Make sure to check the handbook for appropriate dress code items including, spirit wear sweatshirts and sweaters.
Have a great weekend and enjoy the fall type weather!!
