Fifth Grade
Fifth grade strives to teach children how to learn. The emphasis of classroom activities, projects, and instruction is structured to teach critical thinking skills. Fifth grade promotes in students mastery of core knowledge that is essential to their competence as learners in later grades.
The daily schedule includes classes in religion, reading, math, language arts, social studies, science, physical education, art, and computers. Each day classes begin at 8:25 and end at 3:15. The students attend Mass the first Friday of each month.

Hello everyone-
We are off to a fantastic start of the school year. All the kids are doing great and fitting well into the routine of fifth grade. We are slowly getting into things and just took our first open book religion test today! Please make sure you talk to Mrs. Hanaway if you have not picked up your webgrader passwords. They change every year so I do not believe the passwords from last year will work. I update webgrader every day so all grades are current.
In this week's Monday envelopes, students will be receiving a permission slip for the Halquist Stone Company in Sussex. It is a free field trip scheduled for Friday, October 2nd and we will be leaving right after church. We spend a unit of science this year discussing rocks and I thought this would be fascinating for the kids. They will receive a half an hour educational talk on rocks and will then be allowed to pick some to take home. I am in need of five parent drivers so please let me know if you are willing to help out. All parent drivers need to have insurance information on file in the school office and it is definitely not too late to do this.
In the next few days, I will be scheduling the states and capitals test. We have been reviewing in class and will continue to do so. Usually, the test is in mid-October so there will be plenty of advance notice.
Remember to stop in to say hi and let me know if you have any questions or concerns. My door is always open and I think the biggest factor of a successful school year is to keep all lines of communication open. See everyone soon!!
