We had a great beginning to the school year in the library. There are four bins of new books and half of them are Accelerated Readers. Many thanks to Mrs. O'Shea for helping out with the Accelerated Reader program. Tests are being offered every Thursday between 1:00 and 2:00. Fourth grade and up are required to pass one AR test every quarter but are encouraged to do more. For every test they pass they earn 50 points for the library treasure chest which comes out the first Monday and Wednesday of every month.
Second and third grade earns treasure chest points for every ten books they read. Third graders can earn extra points by reading different types of books. We keep track of them on a bingo-like chart. There is also a prize box for kindergarten and first grade when the whole class remembers to return their books on time.
Third grade is currently listening to The Boxcar Children on tape. They will take an AR test on this book when we have finished. Half of fourth grade is listening to Charlottes Web and the other half is listening to Walk Two Moons. Half of fifth grade listens to Where the Red Fern Grows and the other half does Indian In the Cupboard.
Our school theme this year is "Fishers of men". Stop in the library and see our display.
