I hope everyone has a terrific Thanksgiving. When we come back to school we will begin the season of Advent. In class we will do several activities/projects to help the first graders understand the meaning of the season and the idea of preparing ourselves for Christmas.
Our next Mass is Tuesday, December 1 at 8:30. Please join us if you can.
We have our field trip to Betty Brinn on Thursday, December 3. We will leave at 8:45 and return to school in time for lunch around 11:50. They have a special Tinker Toy exhibit that I am sure the first graders will enjoy.
This year for the Spirit Party we are planning on making fleece blankets for the less fortunate. All grades will get together on December 22nd to put the blankets together. After we complete the blankets we are having our classroom parties (this is differenet than what I usually do -- 1st grade used to wait until after Christmas to have their Christmas party). The party will start at 2:15 and end at 3:00 so that we have time for clean up. We will have a birthday party for the baby Jesus. I would still like to ask that students bring in a small gift for a baby (unwrapped, but new, please). We will donate the gifts to the St. Charles Elizabeth Ministry to be used in their baskets presented to new babies. Items can be bottles, rattles, socks, bibs, small toys, spoons, etc. (Something small and inexpensive) We will also make an angel ornament to give to the babies.
Next week (November 30) I will be explaining our animal project to the first graders. They will need to choose an animal (insect, mammal, bird, fish, reptile, or amphibian) that they do not already know a lot about. They will research the animal based on some questions I will supply. Each week they will need two sentences about the specified question. They will be typing these sentences in computer class. (The sentences should consist of words that they can read without too much difficulty. They should also not be too long.) I will send home the information about the whole project next week.
